Recently, my friends and I visited the nearby Korean market and went a little, just a little overboard buying honey butter flavoured snacks. They've been pretty popular for awhile now in Korea, so we thought we should try every single kind available to us! lol.
One disappointing thing was we still couldn't find any of the original honey butter chips, which is indeed, very sad. :(
Well, let's get started!
In no particular order:
1. Honey Tong Tong | 허니통통
In my opinion, this was one of the best out of all of the ones we purchased. The whole bag smells delicious and tastes as delicious. The flavour was more buttery than honey, and the shape is a cute little triangle.
I highly recommend!
2. Corn soup tong tong | 허니통통 콘포타쥬
This is one of the other flavour this brand offers, corn soup. I wasn't sure if I should include it in this review since technically, it's not honey butter flavoured, but it is one of the honey tong tong's, so why not?
Unlike the honey butter tong tong, it did not smell as nice, kind of like cardboard to be exact :l, BUT, it did taste amazing. Reminded me of these Japanese snacks Umaibo (うまい棒) I used to have when I was little. Super tasty.
Anyone remember these?
Since it is one of the tong tongs, it looked exactly like the original. The corn soup flavour gave the chip a more creamy butter texture. Nonetheless, delicious.
3. Gold | 골드콘칩
I'm not sure what to call this so let's just go with Gold lol. This one is actually white cheddar cheese flavoured, with hints of honey butter. In comparison to the honey tong tong, the bag itself does not smell as appetizing.
The shape is more of a curved rectangle, comparatively more crispy and yellow in colour than the other brands. Although it boasts to be cheese flavoured, it also has a very distinct honey taste. My roomate did not like this one as much as I did. As the sweethooth I am, this is perfect for those who prefer a bit more sweetness in their chips!
4. Honey milk | 스윙칩 허니밀크
Honey Milk as the name itself indicates holds a very milky flavour. There is no distinct honey taste like the aforementioned.
This particular brand does not use any fancy shape, just the usual chip. Thin and crispy, but not my ideal flavour to expect keeping in mind the honey taste. If you are a fan of milky flavoured snacks, maybe this would be a good choice for you? But my verdict, is a no.
5. Honey Star | 청우 허니스타
The packaging of this one caught my eye in an instant, stars! Although I am not head over heels over the taste, it is still satisfactory in my scale. The flavour of these chips also leans towards butter more than honey, which is why I do not fancy it as much.
Just look at that! It's exactly like on the package, super delicate and adorable hence the five stars HAHA. I think the only reason I adore these more than honey milk is because of the star shapes lol. Good for photos?
6. Lotte corn snacks | 롯데 꼬깔콘
Placing top 3 in my charts, these were truly delicious. I really liked these snacks when I was little and it tastes even better in honey butter!
A very distinct honey flavour, which I adore, but it also does not mask over the butter, I highly recommend!
7. Hae tae honey cheese sticks | 해태구운감자허니치즈
And last but not least, the Hae Tae honey cheese sticks. To be honest, I didnt like these at all. Yes the packaging is cute, yes, the seasoning is pretty tasty, but the "stick" itself, I dislike.
The appearance is very similar to Pretz, but the texture, super crunchy, kind of hard. I don't know if super crunchy is a good thing or not, but I did not like it one bit. Maybe it's just the particular one I bought? I really did not enjoy eating it. So do not recommend, it was a big disappointment.
